The Playbook
Chapter 2:
The Scounting Report
The Plays:
Moving from the initial shock to strategic intelligence. This is how we scout the medical landscape, vet the research, and take the lead in the clinical game.

Play 1 — Decoding the Data.
Don't wait for a phone call to understand the situation. Request digital access to your pathology reports and MRI scans immediately. Look for key markers (like IDH status or MGMT methylation in GBM) that define the treatment path. Understanding the data is your first step toward effective advocacy.
Play 2 — The PactAI Scouting Tool.
Standard of care is only the starting line. We use tools like PactAI to scout the clinical trial landscape ourselves. Instead of asking 'Are there any trials?', you can walk into your oncology appointment and ask, 'How do these specific trials fit our plan?'
Input your specific markers (like MGMT methylation or IDH status) into the tool. It will filter out the noise and give you a 'scouting report' of trials you actually qualify for. Take that list to your next appointment and ask: 'How do these specific trials compare to our current standard of care?' This moves you from a passive passenger to the lead navigator of the medical team.

Play 3 — Vetting the Gear (Researching DME).
Not all medical equipment is created equal. Before investing in 'big ticket' items, we ignore the flashy ads and look at the actual clinical reliability and real-world durability. We don't settle for the 'standard' insurance-issued gear; we hunt for the specific tools that actually reserve our energy and preserve dignity. If it isn't science-backed and Kacey-approved, it doesn't make the cut.
"From the AAS Desk: In my seven years in clinical healthcare, I’ve learned that the most successful patients are the ones with the best scouting reports. Data isn't scary once you have a plan to use it."
